Sync Helper Extension Privacy

Last updated: 19 May 2026

What the extension does

The Muvic Sync Helper is a small Chromium extension (Manifest V3) that lets the Muvic web app at muvic.app sync your Spotify playlists to your Beatport and Bandcamp accounts without asking you to type those passwords into Muvic. It does this by reading the session cookies that your normal browser already holds after you sign in to those sites yourself.

What it reads

  • Cookies under *.beatport.com and *.bandcamp.com — read on demand when Muvic Web asks for them (or when you open the extension popup). Nothing else. The extension cannot read cookies under any other domain.
  • Messages from Muvic-owned origins — specifically https://muvic.app, https://dev.muvic.app, and local-development http://localhost:3000. Other origins are blocked by Chrome (declared via the manifest's externally_connectable allowlist).

What it does NOT read

  • Your browsing history, open tabs on other sites, or tab contents.
  • Form values, passwords, or anything you type into other sites.
  • Cookies under any domain other than beatport.com and bandcamp.com.
  • Files on your computer.

Where the data goes

When you click Sync to Beatport (or Bandcamp) on muvic.app/sync, the extension hands the platform's cookies to the Muvic web app, which forwards them to Muvic's own sync service so it can replay your session inside a headless browser and add the tracks to your cart / wishlist on your behalf. Cookies are never sent to any third party, and Muvic does not persist them beyond the duration of the sync request.

Storage

The extension declares the storage permission but currently stores no persistent user data. The popup reads cookies live on each open. Future versions may cache small per-platform UI hints (e.g. last sync timestamp); this policy will be updated before that ships.

Account requirement

The sync flow only runs when you're signed in to Muvic Web with a Muvic account. The extension itself is inert without a signed-in Muvic session — it has no way to call sync-api on its own. See the main Muvic Privacy Policy for how your Muvic account data is handled.
